The 10 Most Valuable Base Cards

Base (Base, 1999) has 102 cards. Here are the ten most valuable by current TCGplayer market price, led by Charizard at around $630.39. Prices move constantly, so treat this as a live snapshot rather than a fixed ranking.

Charizard (Base)1
Charizard$630.39
Base · 1999 · Rare Holo · Mitsuhiro Arita

The card that built the hobby. Illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, the 1999 Base Set Charizard is the most recognizable Pokémon card in the world and the holy grail for a generation of collectors. It was deliberately scarce — unevenly seeded into Base Set boosters — so pulling one became a childhood legend. The first-run 1st Edition (marked with a small stamp) and the Shadowless printing that followed command the highest prices, but even the common Unlimited version is a centerpiece card. More than its stats, it's the cultural icon of Pokémon collecting.
