1Shining Pokémon were the TCG's first alternate-color 'shiny' cards — introduced with two cards in Neo Revelation, then expanded to eight secret rares in Neo Destiny, numbered past the end of the set. Shining Charizard was the one everyone wanted, gold-trimmed and off-palette, and clean copies were scarce from the start. High-grade examples still trade for thousands, second only to Base Set among vintage Charizards.

What makes a Pokémon card valuable?
Four things do most of the work: scarcity (short print runs, secret rares, and error cards), age (vintage first editions from 1999–2002), condition (a PSA 10 can be worth many times a raw copy), and demand for the Pokémon or artwork. Popular chase Pokémon like Charizard and special illustration rares command a premium on all four counts.
